City of Diamonds Undisputed diamond capital of the world Antwerp is without a doubt the most important diamond centre in the world. Exploiting a critical mass built up over decades, Antwerp’s diamond district generated a staggering $US42 billion in turnover in 2007 and all indicators point to continued growth in the near future.

Diamonds love Antwerp Antwerp has more than earned its reputation as the diamond capital of the world. More than 80% of the world’s rough diamonds, around 50% of all polished diamonds and 40% of its industrial diamonds are traded through Antwerp every year, day in day out.

Holding its own Despite the diversification of the world diamond industry and mounting competition from Dubai, Botswana and South Africa, Antwerp continues to reinforce its position on the world stage, booking a record-breaking $42 billion in revenue in 2007, good for 7% of all Belgian exports.

The dazzling mile The Antwerp Diamond District comprises some 1500 diamond firms and four diamond exchanges within an area of less than 1km2. This high concentration of economic activity and expertise built up over generations is unparalleled anywhere else in the world.
