Urban Projects A city in development The City of Antwerp is a vigorous proponent of progress, investing heavily in a variety of urban projects designed to improve productivity and quality of life in the city and its immediate surrounds.
Mobility The much talked about Oosterweel Link involving the expansion of the Antwerp ring road will drastically improve accessibility and the flow of traffic into, out of and around the city. Current railway developments such as the Diabolo and HSL-Noord projects are also set to boost the efficiency of rail links to Brussels Airport and Amsterdam while expansions of the local tram network will greatly enhance mobility within the city.
Recreation and parklands In addition to the ambitious Spoor Noord project, comprising extensive parklands within the northern limits of the city, the city administration is also investing heavily in the redevelopment of public spaces on the Left Bank, along the Scheldt quays and the so-called Groene Singel or green strip which encircles the city.
Urban Living Maximizing the use of inner city space, while preserving Antwerp’s unique urban character is among the city’s highest priorities and most pressing challenges. The Regatta housing development on the left bank offers urban living in green surrounds while the Military Hospital, New Zurenborg and Ziekenhuis Boulevard complete the list of groundbreaking architectural projects in the city centre.
